I keep a few African violets as houseplants. They’re nice and easy to care for, usually, and my grandfather had a particular affinity for them. Under my microscope their flowers are more beautiful than we can appreciate with the naked eye. The petals are comprised of what look like bubbles of jelly candy, and the cluster of pistils reminds me of mineral crystals.
